As you may know, Perry Esler has been dedicated to our mission for more than 25 years. From road volunteer during the 1995 walk across Ontario that started the movement to end Duchenne muscular dystrophy in Canada to Board member and CEO since 2018.

It is with deep sadness we share the news of his departure as CEO this June.

Many people in the community have come to know Perry for his warmth and passion for the cause. More still know him for his pivotal role in spreading the movement to defeat Duchenne across Canada and around the world.

Perry has been a dear friend and valued colleague who has led the organization through many successes. His contributions have been immeasurable in the way we operate and the direction of our strategies to help boys and young men with Duchenne.

The Board of Directors has already met to discuss and action the identification and recruitment of a new CEO to advance our mission. With a carefully considered succession plan in place, Perry is committed to ensuring a smooth transition. He is working closely with the Board to ensure that our legacy as a community continues to flourish and further its storied track record for positive and impactful change.

In the months ahead, we hope you will join us as we celebrate the many achievements Perry shares with the inspiring men and families that Defeat Duchenne Canada works with and for.
