Defeat Duchenne Canada is pleased to share a promising update from Edgewise Therapeutics Inc., announced during their investor call on June 26, 2025.
The company reported positive results from clinical trials of sevasemten, an oral fast skeletal myosin inhibitor designed to protect dystrophin-deficient muscles during contraction. Encouraging outcomes were presented for both Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) programs.
Following a productive meeting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding their Becker data, Edgewise plans to pursue regulatory approval for sevasemten—which, if successful, could mark the first approved therapy for Becker muscular dystrophy in the USA.
While their Duchenne program is in earlier stages, these developments represent an encouraging step forward for the broader dystrophinopathy community and Defeat Duchenne Canada will continue to investigate innovative solutions to accelerate access to treatments proven to be safe and effective for both Becker and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
