Emery didn’t run or jump like the other kids. When he was almost five years old, he has a ruptured appendix, and that’s when doctors discovered that he had Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Emery says it’s not easy having Duchenne. His muscles are weaker than his 14-year-old friends, and he’s shorter than other boys because of his steroid treatments. But Emery has determination, and he’s supported by his family, friends and the wider Duchenne community.
