Hamilton’s Grain & Grit Beer Co. is teaming up with the local charity event Max’s Big Ride to brew the first ever “Max’s Big Beer.”

The limited edition beer will go on sale in June with the hope of raising awareness about Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Fifty cents from every can sold will be donated to the Gunning Group lab at the University of Toronto Mississauga through the registered Canadian charity Defeat Duchenne Canada.

The beer is a milkshake IPA with peach and vanilla because those are two of Max’s favourite flavours.

Max Sedmihradsky, 7, has Duchenne muscular dystrophy — a fatal disease that does not allow his muscles to develop.

For the past three summers, he and his dad Andrew have ridden their cargobike 600 kilometres between Hamilton and Ottawa to raise money for a cure.

So far, they’ve raised more than $140,000.
