Duane’s fight to defeat Duchenne muscular dystrophy began when he met his wife, Karen, 15 years ago. Her brother, Kevin, sadly passed away from the disease, and her 23-year old nephew, Ricky, also has Duchenne. But it wasn’t until 2009 that Duane fully understood what it’s like to live with Duchenne, as their youngest son, James, received the diagnosis.
As a family, Duane and Karen are optimistic that there will be a cure in James’ lifetime. Until then, they want to give him every opportunity to experience as much as possible. Today, James is a very loving and musical 11-year old who loves all things British pop culture, from The Beatles to Queen and Monty Python. This year has been tough with the pandemic, but James and Duane have taken up ice fishing and tried to get out as much as possible walking their German shepherd puppy, Zeus when the weather allows.
To help raise awareness and funds for Duchenne, Duane is challenged himself with the 4x4x48 Challenge from March 5-7, where he ran 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. It’s not too late to support Duane by donating below!
